Growing up online

  • Things that did NOT surprised me:
  1. Kids not knowing that the internet can be dangerous for them
  2. Kids using the internet for social websites like club penguin or MySpace
  3. Parental controls
  4. Kids using their phones and computer all the time
  5. People using social websites to learn everything about everyone
  6. People using social websites to insult and cyber bullying people
  7. People having relationships over websites
  8. People sending pictures through the internet
  9. The parents making the girl deleting every picture
  10. Kids not knowing that it is dangerous just because they are in their house
  11. Stalkers and internet predators
  12. Kids hiding their screens to parents
  13. Kids thinking they know how to be safe, you can have an idea but they don't know everything
  14. People deleting someone they don't know
  15. A mom thinking just because there was alcohol in a concert, parents thinking their kids automatically had consumed alcohol
  16. People feeling lonely and with suicide thought over cyberbullying
  • Things that DID surprised me
  1. Kids creating videos, because they are creating videos of their faces so everyone can see it
  2. Parents knowing what the kids can do in the internet but they don't stop it
  3. People competing in social websites on who had more friends, this is crazy, why would you do that. Those websites are for YOUR friends not people you don't know
  4. People having the relationship online, but not talking face to face, that's called not being real
  5. A girl being a Goth model with a secret identity and the parents not knowing anything of it, it is scary to see kids act like something completely different
  6. The parent making the girl deleting every picture of her but not knowing that once something is in the internet, it will never be completely erased, people could still see the pictures and have them in their phones and computers
  7. In the internet there a re no secrets, someone will always be able to see what you upload, it is scary because even thought you try to be safe and you are educated, you are still in danger
  8. A mother asking for her kids passwords of social websites, the kids will never give the password it is something personal
  9. The teacher talking about sexual harassment over the internet, and saying it is not that bad, they are still being asked for pictures or other things, it is still bad enough
  10. A girl being "herself" with other people having the same problems, she felt good talking to other strange people about everything
  11. Forums and websites talking about problems and sharing "helps" for other people with the same problems.
  12. A girl suffering of an eating disorder and sharing her problems with people all over the world, but not to her parents, it can be hard to talk about this, but it isn't better to talk about it to other strange people
  13. A kid being bullied, then asked his parents to teach him to protect himself but then killed himself, I find bullying disgusting and for it to get to a level of suicide is messed up
  14. A girl flirting with the kid that committed suicide, but then just saying it was a joke, I like to messed up with kids like you, why would a girl do that? Just leave him alone
  15. A file that the dad found about websites and pages that helped them know how to suicide, it was Ryan and the other kid
  • Things that have changed about technology
  1. Most popular website: MySpace and Facebook, MySpace is not popular anymore

Swiss school

  • First video- Sustainability Management School (SUMAS):
- It is the only school in Europe meant for sustainability
-Located in Gland, Switzerland
-The school is in the green building of IUCN ( International Union for Conservation of Nature)
-The school divides in business management, education and scientific knowledge for sustainable development
-Students can take that sustainability knowledge and apply it to any other career
-SUMAS is the only school in Europe that offers the bachelor and master of business

  • Second video- Sustainable consumption and production: a green world:
-Global warming, deforestation, and pollution damages the planet
- Traffic, buildings, food and waste takes 80% of environmental impact
-By 2050 if us humans don't change, we will need twice the earths surface to absorb our waste
-The key in improving is to use the ecological resources we are offered

  • Third video- An inconvenient truth:
-The hottest summer have been in the last 14 years, the hottest of all has been in 2005
-We are causing global warming
-Soon enough there will be no ice/snow
-If the polar zones melt, the sea level world wide would go up to 20 feet
-Florida Shanghai, New York and many other cities would become flooded
-The growth in temperature is a moral problem
-Also the growth in temperature causes the storms, like hurricane Katrina

  • Fourth video- Flight Moffett to Phoenix:
-They will do the Cross America mission
-The plane has only one seat
-The plane does not use fuel, so it can practically fly for ever

  • Fifth video- Around state university:
-Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard visit the graduates and talk about their plane and experiments
-They expect to use another plane by 2015
-Andre explains to the graduates that the project wasn't easy, but they could overcome those obstacles by never giving up

  • Assignment
How can we use sustainability in out city?

Bogota is surrounded by a lot of land that can be used for sustainable farms. There are a few projects working on achieving this farms and producing the food and resources for a city/town. With this farms, the production of food would be good and fast. It would be good because it is all natural not damaging the food and/or the land. Fast because it is all connected and makes the products grow faster. Everything used in the farm is re-usable and "safe" for humans, plants and animals living on the farm.

GAFE

Google Drive

  • A Google application that people can use to save all you need (files)
In Google Drive you can :
  • save power point documents
  • add videos and pictures
  • create chats, groups where you share your save files
  • use up to 5GB of storage for free (if you want more you have to pay)
  • add spreadsheets
  • add Google docs
  • share your files with all electronic devices
  • in a group project you can edit at same time
  • search with Google Goggles
How can it be useful?
People can be organized with their files and have them all in one place. They can share with friends and family all over the word. Edit group works at the same time. Create Google docs, that people can use to write stories and other important documents. Have their presentations ready and saved.

Conclusion:

Google Drive is a very useful app. I really find it interesting and makes me wanting to use it. It would help so much in school because you can share all your files, you can add your teacher and don't have to lose any piece of the work. For teachers I also find it very useful because they can add  their students and they cvan work form any part, at home. They can share ideas and organize an activity together. Any type of work can be uploaded to it, you can present form it. I really just find it useful to be organized, for a student a teacher or a worker. Also for free time for your interests  because you can use it to store your drafts, your videos, pictures. Even better, you can share them with anyone you want. You can create a chat were all the members talk or edit the work at the same time. Also I find it great that you can synchronize and upload things from any device, so you don't have to be in the computer you can be in your phone and still edit and share whatever you need. I really found it extremely useful.

Bots and Spyware

What I know:

  • It is used to spy on someones information.
  • Happens when people use internet without safety.
Questions:
  • How do hackers spy on your computer?
  • What are BOTS?
  • What is a SPYWARE?
  • How to be aware and protect your computer?
What I learned:
  • Spyware- a software that downloads directly to your computer. BY other downloads of the internet, spam mails and websites.
  • Also called Malware.
  •  Bots are application that can be used in positive or negative reasons. In negative cases, people use them to enter a website, mail, etc, to make a copy of it with out the owners permission.
  • Bots can transform into viruses that will also affect the information stored in your computer.
  • Spyware, can change many settings of your computer, such as your internet settings, wallpaper, and access the computers memory.
  • Other ways to get a Spyware: download free/unofficial apps form the internet, install games or other softwares non related to your computer, going on spam adds, having  a protection for your computer (antivirus)
  • Preventing: installing anti-spyware software, antivirus, noticing what things you are downloading into your computer, be careful on which websites you enter, watch what you are doing when you are browsing.
  • Hackers enter your computer by victimizing random people over all the world.
  • They create fake profiles, and fake announcements in which many people fall, and they gain information given by the same person, meaning the victim gives the the key to the door.
  • People who don't care of which websites they are using or what they are doing when browsing, give the possibility to hackers to enter their information, or others information.
Summary:
  • This relates to my life because I could be in danger over the internet. If I don't learn and get information on how to prevent all this dangers, bad things could happen to me and affect my life. Also i could affect my friends and family, my devices and helping bad people over the world. If people don't get educated in this topics they will go through real bad times. With all this information I know how to see fraud and prevent things to happen.

Amazon Product

I used IMovie for the product of Biology, Sociales, and Global Studies

This is a very good technology tool, and I love to work with it.

Design project day 5

-What was the biggest problem you encountered? How did you solve it?When we were making the goals, because we had to tape all the corners, and some wouldn't   come together. We put more tape and used a different box.

When we created the "surface" were the  players would made the pyramid .

-Who in your group resisted new ideas the most and why?
None of us resisted ideas. We just kept on giving new ideas and placing them in the game.

-What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
At first I believed it wouldn't work, and that we wouldn't have time to finish. We kept on working hard and together and we finally made it.

-Who in your group played "devil's advocate" (a person who questions everything, even good ideas) and how did that help the process?
None because we understand each other very good, and don't judge o bother each other. It turned out very good, though we worked in teamwork and achieved what was planned.
-What did you learn about yourself, teamwork, and the design process?
That Tomas and me work very good together, we enjoy and make it all work.

Design project-day 1

Tomas Urrutia, Sofia Mesa

The game will be for Middle School
The difficulty will be Medium

What makes a game fun and successful:

  • Not that hard but not that easy
  • that you win a prize
  • competition
  • makes people think its interesting
  • topics that people like
Research:
  • I liked that the kid ndid many games. He was creative, and looked like he worked hard. I think he coould have used and created new games, not a new type of real arcade games.

  • He had tons of games. Again he didn't explain, and had the same ideas as a nnormal arcade. But still he had good ideas and a lot of different games.

  • This was the best video I watched, he thought opf all. He created different forms of games.

Ideas for our game:
  • That looks nice and attracts peoples attention
  • Keep it in a medium level so the Middle School kids don't think it is too easy or too hard
  • New ideas, to try and be creative
  • Make the game to achieve competition between the players
Our idea:
  • Competition between two players, and get a ball from a ball full of confetti. The first to get the ball will try to make 5 goals with it it his/her own goal. Then create a triangle with three cards.
What may go wrong:
  • The confetti could ran out
  • The ball could be lost
  • people couldn't create a triangle with the cards
  • Cards get lost

FINAL PRESENTATION

Overall goals:

  • Learn how to do special effects: we knew little about special effects/video editing. Since we got a lot of school projects involving videos, we wanted to stand out, and do a great job. It will also help us in the future.
  • Do a successful video using what we learned: when we started we didn't knew much, but we didn't only want the the information, we actually wanted to put it to use.
Process:
  • We started researching using different tools such as YouTube  Google, and different blogs that talked and teach about the topic.
  • We researched which was the best program for special effects and video editing
  • We collected and took notes, on the programs, tips, and types of effects  and decided which one was the best.
  • We filmed the scenes we learned from our research
  • We gave each scene an specific effect with different programs
  • Then we join each scene to make the actual effect, and joining everything together with Movie Maker
Fails:
  • In the green screen effect, we failed because we never found a perfect wall or background to make it work
  • When we tried to do the Rotomate effect, it didn't saved correctly and erased the face out of the object
Tools:
  • YouTube: we looked for videos that were able to show us some effects, how to do them, and how to use some programs. Which were difficult to use
  • We used Google to find different webpages and blogs that thought us about good programs and were to download them, some effects, tips, skills. Such as:
  • http://www.deskshare.com/resources/articles/vem_UsefulEditingTechniques.aspx
  • http://www.linkedin.com/skills/skill/Video_Editing
  • https://www.magisto.com/
  • We used Wax 2.0: this helped us to create effects like, cloning, disappearing, fast/slow motion, cartoon hiding and others
  • Cantasia: this program helped to record our screen to explain the process
  • Format Factory: this program converted files to different formats, so the certain programs would accept it
  • Movie Maker: the program helped to put all the videos together to create the whole video
Useless Tools:
  • We thought that most of the pages we found were useless because we didn't understand anything compared to YouTube videos. With YouTube we could see exactly what to do.
